I'm so pleased to announce that my article "Life to Live and Dreams to Dream - The Saturn-Neptune Cycle in Movies and History" is published and available now in The Mountain Astrologer's February/March 2016 issue. Click to view the Table of Contents. You can purchase the magazine in stores, or subscribe digitally to view it online. The digital subscription includes beautiful, downloadable, high resolution PDF files.

I taught on the subject of the Saturn-Neptune cycle in the last months of 2015. An MP3 of one of those talks is available here. Presented for STARS, the local (Minneapolis) chapter of NCGR, the talk complements my article and includes a great deal of additional Saturn-Neptune material not included in the article. A PDF of the slides is included with your purchase.

I've got a few exciting events coming up in 2016, including a presentation of "Neptune's Immensities" for the San Francisco Astrological Society on August 25. Stay tuned for further announcements.

Pluto's Riches, Neptune's Mysteries, and the Saturn-Neptune Cycle

I've got some classes and presentations coming up!

Pluto’s Riches

August 20, 2015

6:00 PM Central Time

In Greek mythology, Hades was the ruler of the Underworld. The Romans named this god Pluto, which means “riches.” When a person died, it was said their soul descended into the Underworld. Thus, the Underworld of Pluto is a realm of soul (psyche) and a realm of depth, well-suited for archetypal exploration.

As ancient coins were minted from metals under the ground, Pluto’s riches can be mined from the materials found in the depths of the psyche. This class is an archetypal and astrological look at the symbolism and imagery of Pluto, with a number of chart examples woven throughout.

Presented through Nightlight Astrology.

Neptune & The Mystic Chords of Memory

September 12, 2015   |   3:00 PM

I will be speaking on behalf of The London School of Astrology at "The 47th Annual Conference of the Astrological Association: Appreciating our Past and Creating our Future," near Cambridge, in England. The conference is held September 11 - 14th September 2015. Click here for full conference details.

My talk is called "Neptune & the Mystic Chords of Memory," with the following brief description:

Neptune's oceanic nature resonates with a sense of timelessness and eternity, and water has an intimate symbolic connection with memory - both forgetting and remembering. “That which is imagined need never be lost,” writes Clive Barker. This talk explores these themes and how they relate to Neptune's watery ways.

The Saturn-Neptune Cycle – Life to Live and Dreams to Dream

Wednesday, September 16, 2015   |   7:00 PM - 9.30 PM

Friends Meeting House, 173 Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ

While I am in London, I will be teaching at the London School of Astrology. The class is about the Saturn-Neptune cycle, the closing square of which becomes exact beginning in Autumn 2015, when Saturn in Sagittarius will square Neptune in Pisces for the remainder of the year and a majority of 2016. A description of the class:

In 1853, prominent art critic, painter, and prolific writer John Ruskin noted, “The imagination is never governed. It is always the ruling and Divine power.” With Ruskin’s statement in mind, the Saturn-Neptune cycle can be seen as the dynamic relationship between two governing forces: Saturn as the concrete world, and Neptune as the reality of imagination.

In this class, archetypal astrologer Shawn Nygaard explores the 37-year Saturn-Neptune cycle via a mixture of movies, historical events, and people associated with this specific cycle, all of which help reveal the symbolism of how Saturn and Neptune interact with each other. Once we recognize the symbolism, we can in turn recognize not only how this cycle shows up in our lives and in the world, but also how we might imagine possibilities for working with these archetypal patterns as they become active this year.

Please email me if you have any questions about any of the classes.

Neptune's Immensities

Note: The MP3 recording of this webinar is now available in the Store: Neptune's Immensities

Neptune's Immensities

On February 26, 2015, at 6:00 PM Central Time, I am presenting a webinar for Nightlight Astrology, called "Neptune's Immensities."

Neptune is currently in Pisces, and on February 26 Neptune will be in an almost-exact conjunction with the Sun in Pisces. It's a wonderful time to explore the complexities and confusions and other-worldly imaginings of the planet Neptune.

John Ruskin, a prominent and influential artist, art patron, and art critic during the Romantic period of Western history, noted that, "The imagination is never governed. It is always the ruling and divine power." This will be our entryway into Neptune, a planet of immense imagination.

Currently, Saturn in Sagittarius is in a loose square with Neptune in Pisces, an aspect that will become much stronger (exact) in the autumn of 2015 and throughout most of 2016. This webinar explores Neptune in the context of this Saturn square. With Ruskin's quote in mind, we can see that Saturn square Neptune is a conflict between governing forces, a tense period when the cold, hard reality of Saturn's limitations must contend with Neptune's imaginative appeal. Saturn in Sagittarius' quest for the Truth spars with Neptune in Pisces' so-called "illusions."

The last time Saturn in Sagittarius was square Neptune in Pisces was in 1692 and 1693, during the Salem witch trials. It was a time when Saturn's intolerance of more magical and supernatural belief systems took its toll - a theme explored in "Neptune's Immensities." I'll also speak about the profoundly important role Neptune plays during our current times, a role that will increase in significance particularly after the Uranus-Pluto square passes in the Spring of 2015.

"Neptune's Immensities" features a number of audio and video clips from movies to help grasp the grand, oceanic nature of Neptune.

To register, please click here to make a donation to Nightlight Astrology in an amount between $15 and $25, or more. Adam Elenbaas will send you the log-in information for the 26th. If you have any questions, please email me.
